Description
I get off I-605 and drive along familiar surface streets, that have changed since I left some nineteen years ago.
I drive through residential streets until I get to an address on Glen Street.
I pull into a driveway, park my truck and then stroll over to a front door. I ring the bell.
A slightly haggard Emma answers the ring and gazes at me, through the screen door. The lady smirks, “As if I didn’t have enough trouble already, here’s Big Jim Elt.”
I hold up my calling card, for Emma. “I have $2,000 for you and another $2,000 for each month that I stay in your barn, out back.”
I see hope and suspicion flare in Emma’s face. She asks, “Who did you kill?”
I smile, “I have killed no one. The police aren’t looking for me although there are those who are looking for me.”
Emma is still suspicious, but $2.000 is $2,000. She opens the door and lets me in.
I hand the lady the cash.
Emma counts the cash. “All right, $2,000 in hundreds. Will you tell me where you got the money?”
I lecture the lady, “I worked for a boy, down South. He was laundering money for at least one criminal enterprise. He then decided to skim some money off the top. He hid a lot of cash, where almost no one could find it. I found where he hid it. The boy owed me a lot of money. I took what I was owed and a collection fee, as well. I then left the boy to deal with several criminal elements, the FBI, the IRS, an ex-wife, a former mistress and possibly others. All of them wanted cash, from the boy.”
Emma says, “Your father left me with very little. I was given the contents of several bank accounts, a fancy Mercedes automobile and this house. The bank accounts were drained. The Mercedes was a stolen and I now live here, working as a waitress, to earn what I need to live.”
I nod yes. My father also left me nothing. Well, I did get several of the people that he did business with, trying to shake money out of me.”
Emma says, “After you left, your father maybe got married to a semi-hooker named Maisy. After several years of nasty fights, he left the bitch. She tried to divorce him and found that maybe she wasn’t legally married to him. Then the court found out that she was legally married to at least two other men, at the same time, well I don’t think that’s legal. I then moved in with your father and lived with him for a while. The rest you know.”
I lecture, “With no choice in the matter, I went to high school, where I learned very little of value. I took the GED tests and technically graduated from high school. I then went to college, on a work study plan. I earned enough to support myself, which was good, since my father gave me no help at all. I then graduated from college and went to work for my work study company. My starting pay was a little light and then the company wanted to pay me in lettered stock, that I couldn’t sell, or so they thought. However, I have an off shore broker and I would do what they call short sell the lettered shares of stock, as fast as I got the certificates. I was not allowed to legally sell lettered stock shares, my offshore broker could legally sell the shares. With put option leverage, I made some money, as the shares declined in value. My work study company then went bankrupt. I managed to get hired on, with one of the customers of my former work study company. I became a specialist in high speed data communication. The flow of international money, via the high speed data communication lines, led me to a job with a crook, down South. I was owed money, but I got paid only a fraction of what I was owed. I did manage to make money off of my knowledge of the international money flows. Unfortunately, that knowledge is my death warrant. However, my crook boss was stealing money from the kind of crooks who will kill anyone who tries to take their money.
